With Argentina's triumph in the team competition, the 15th North American Optimist Sailing Championship 2021 (Optinam) concluded, which took place in Riviera Nayarit from May 29 to June 4, thus closing the first stage of the Nautical Season. in this tourist destination.

This year 110 young sailors from 12 countries of the world participated: Argentina, Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay, Virgin Islands and Mexico, with a spectacular closing in which the Argentine team managed to get to the top of the podium after beating Brazil.
Agustina Argüelles was the winner of the "Perpetual Trophy for the best classified female"
The winning team was made up of Agustina Argüelles, Tomás Travaglini, Julieta Benedetto Josef Contardi, Lucas Contardi and Delfina Kuttel, the latter being the winner of the "Perpetual Trophy for the best classified female", with 91 points.
In the individual count, the United States won the top three places: 1st Fynn Olsen; 2nd Gil Hackel and 3rd Richard Syke. It also had nine sailors in the Top 15, as well as two of the top five female sailors, Sophie de Leon Urban, in second place and Sadie Bolton, in fourth place. While the best classified from Mexico was Carlos Beckmann Zamora, in eighth place, with 110 points.

The award ceremony took place at the Paradise Village Hotel Convention Center, where the athletes, supervisors and companions gathered and where the winners received their trophies and awards, beautiful works made by Huichol artisans.

Prior to Optinam, between May 20 and 23, the J70 National Championship was held at the facilities of the Vallarta Yacht Club in the Marina Paradise Village.
In this championship, 23 boats with five crew members each participated, including several world champions and Olympic medalists from more than 10 different nationalities.
In February, the Wesmex International Small Boat Regatta took place, considered one of the five regattas on the Mexican Circuit by the Optimist, Laser, Windsurf and 420 class associations, and in January, opening the season, the Vallarta Cup Race Series took place. , races in which around 20 sailboats participate -every Saturday of the month- in a friendly competition.
