They gave life to the city boardwalk, the main symbolic reference of the community.<\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/h4>\n<p><strong>By Alfonso Banos<\/strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">The only piece of public space in Puerto Vallarta that opens completely to the sea is the <a href=\"https:\/\/labahiamasbella.com\/en\/lugar\/malecon-de-puerto-vallarta\/\">Pier<\/a>, composed of a promenade parallel to the sea located in the center of the city. Its construction dates back to 1925 when, after the passage of a devastating hurricane, its construction was suggested as a retaining wall. With the passage of time and after successive construction stages, it would reach the size it currently has. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">and would be an iconic reference to this day.<\/span><\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h4 align=\"left\"><strong> Puerto Vallarta in memory: memories of the 70s<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">In the 1970s, many places that were part of local history congregated in front of the Malec\u00f3n. Now they do not appear in the memory or in the narrative of daily life in Vallarta. Many of them were restaurants, like the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>Red onion<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"> either <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>The backyard<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">, places to satisfy the demands of diners from all over the world. Was also <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>I\u00b4l Mangiare<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"> and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>Mogambo<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">, where good food was combined with a seductive decoration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">In the Plaza de Armas was <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>benedict<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">, famous for good service and relaxed atmosphere. There the pizzas, spaghetti and hamburgers were legendary for their exquisite flavor. Inside the premises, the sculpture of <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>The mermaid<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">, by maestro Manuel Romo. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">They also highlighted fun places, like the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>Hard Rock Cafe<\/i><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">with his classic vintage car coming out of the entrance wall and where you enjoyed good rock bands with live music. How to forget<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i>White House<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">, with an active nightlife where the most varied of tourists and locals congregated.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10352\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10352\" class=\"wp-image-10352 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/labahiamasbella.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/hard-rock-3.jpg\" alt=\"Puerto Vallarta en el recuerdo, Hard Rock Cafe, locales emblem\u00e1ticos de los 70\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10352\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The classic Hard Rock Caf\u00e9, with its vintage car sticking out of the entrance wall: another long gone classic.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4 align=\"left\">\u00a0<strong><i>Carlos O&#039;Brians,<\/i> the favorite<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">But perhaps the most emblematic space of all was the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/carlosobrianspv\/\">Carlos O&#039;Brians<\/a>. <\/i>Was<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"> located at the corner of P\u00edpila street and Paseo D\u00edaz Ordaz, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">which is now pedestrianized.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"> Its popularity was earned by the freshness of its proposal, where all attendees were treated with the same fervor and interest, without discriminating age, social position or gender. \u201cCarlos\u201d, as we popularly called it, was the place par excellence to start the party, meet artists, athletes and famous people or with friends and family.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10350\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10350\" class=\"wp-image-10350 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/labahiamasbella.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/10543634_10201108739680440_4135619108232531252_n.jpg\" alt=\"Puerto Vallarta en el recuerdo, Carlos O\u00b4Brians, locales emblem\u00e1ticos de los 70\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1008\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Carlos O&#039;Brians was located on the corner of P\u00edpila street and Paseo D\u00edaz Ordaz, which is now pedestrianized.<\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">Today, the vocation of the businesses facing the Malec\u00f3n has mutated to become the main nightclub walkway in the town. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\">In this process, we saw the glamor and familiarity that characterized this essential public space in Vallarta life fade away.
