Patron Saint Festival of Bucerías: A 60-year tradition

From January 16 to 24 there are religious, artistic and cultural activities. The 24th is the sea pilgrimage of fishermen and their families from Cruz de Huanacaxtle. 

 

In Bucerías, coastal town of the Riviera Nayarit, the patron saint festivities in honor of Our Lady Peace They are celebrated from January 16 to 24 and are a tourist attraction. During one week a very complete program is developed that includes, in addition to religious services, sports, artistic and cultural activities. This tradition of 60 years of history It shows the union between fishermen, divers, merchants and the people in general, who with the support of the authorities manage to endorse their faith. The festivity has a mixed audience between nationals and foreigners. Only on the day of the maritime pilgrimage the presence of more than 4 thousand people has been registered.

Start: Pilgrimage novena

It all begins with a novena of pilgrimages and masses in honor of the Virgin, which begins on January 16 and ends on the 24th, the “big” day. On that day, the families of Bucerías and nearby towns gather on the beach in front of the town's main square to receive the traditional maritime pilgrimage. The procession, which has been taking place for 57 years, is led by fishermen from the region. They carry a "Torch of Peace" from the town of La Huanacaxtle Cross.

Upon arrival in Bucerías, a mass is celebrated in the parish. There all the faithful gather to ask for a good year of fishing, tourism, health and prosperity for their families.

2020 Program of the Patron Saint Festivities of Bucerías

The organizing committee of the Fiestas announced this year's program:

Thursday January 16: Breaking of the Fiestas with the Traditional Parade in which the charro associations and the general public participate. Meeting point: 5:00 pm at the Explanada Corona.

Novena: It begins on January 16 and ends on the 24th, with the participation of the nine sectors of the community, with their respective pilgrimages and floats.

Morning to the Virgin: Every day at 6:00 am and Alba Mass at 7:30 am In the afternoon, starting at 8:00 pm, cultural-musical festival in the main square.

The Association of Hotels and Motels of Bahía de Banderas and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau extend the invitation to the inhabitants of Bahía de Banderas and nearby towns, as well as national and foreign visitors, to visit Bucerías and be part of these traditional festivals.
