With four races in January, the Vallarta Cup Race kicked off the annual regatta season. Calendar of upcoming competitions in Bahía de Banderas.
The waters of the second largest bay in the world, located in the Mexican Pacific, hosted the Vallarta Cup Race, which has started the annual regatta season for twenty years. There were four races during the same number of Saturdays in the month of January. The event gives way to other extraordinary events, which with the brotherhood and camaraderie of the locals, warm up engines for the coming months.
With the majestic backdrop of the Sierra Madre mountains, Banderas Bay is the perfect place to sail in front of Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. The wind speeds up every afternoon and the boats glide with joy and grace on the carpets of the sea.
This year was not the exeption. Around 15 boats gathered each Saturday: January 2, 12, 19 and 26. Winners received awards.
The races concluded each Saturday night, which gave way to a fun party in the Vallarta Yacht Club , where the participants met to share the stories of their adventures.
Winners of the Vallarta Cup Race
The three categories were: Performance Cruiser, Cruiser and Multi Hull. The winners of the first Saturday were:
- In Cruising Class A, Poco Loco Dos (Catalina 38).
- In Multi-Hull Class B, first was Cricket (Farrier 22), leaving Jazz (Farrier F41ex) in second place.
- In Performance Class C, in order of appearance from first to third, the winners were Wings (Serendipity 43), Sirocco (J130) and Bright Star (JNNSF38).
On Saturday, January 12 and in the same class order, they were:
- Cruising Class A, Hey YA (Beneteau 390), Poco Loco Dos (Catalina 38), and Mangata (Hunter 37 Legend).
- Multi-hull Class B, the Cricket (Farrier 22).
- Performance Class C, Olas Lindas (
variant 44), Sirocco (J130) and Wings (Serendipity 43).
The third date on January 19 began the award ceremony in Cruising Class A, with Poco Loco Dos (Catalina 38), while in Multi-hull Class B it went to Cricket (Farrier 22), and finally in Performance Class C, the winners were Wings (Serendipity 43), Olas Lindas (Varianta 44) and Shiva (J80OD).
Finally, the fourth date yielded the following markers: Cruising Class A with Poco Loco Dos (Catalina 38), in Multi-hull Class B Cricket stood out; and in Performance Class C, the winners from first to third were Wings (Serendipity 43), Mony (Beneteau First 36.7) and Sirocco (J130).

The winners of Overall of the Vallarta Cup Race 2019 were in class A the Poco Loco Dos (Catalina 38), leaving Hey YA (Beneteau 390) and Mangata (Hunter 37 Legend) in second and third respectively.
In class B it was Cricket (Farrier 22) and in Second Jazz (Farrier F41ex); and in class C from first to third were Wings (Serendipity 43), Sirroco (J130) and Olas Lindas (Varianta 44).
It should be noted that the Vallarta Cup opens a large number of regattas throughout the year:
- The next regatta in Bahía de Banderas takes place from March 5 to 9.
- The largest regatta in the country, the WesMex, arrives with around 300 sailors from March 19 to 24.
- The J70 National Regatta takes place from May 2 to 5.
