The Decameron

Pasolini freely adapts ten or more episodes of the collection of one hundred short tales of the 14th century of Boccaccio.

The Decameron interweaves the stories of happy or tragic lovers, naughty nuns and lusty priests, naive husbands and tricky but cunning wives, inept grave robbers and a young gardener who obtained more than he had anticipated, with his own meditations on art.

Pasolini himself plays the painter Giotto who watches the characters who inspire him to paint a fresco on the wall of the church.
