Ceviche and Aguachile: a Vallarta festival with a taste of the sea

The 5th Ceviche and Aguachile Festival is coming. It will be on January 27 at the Lázaro Cárdenas park. There will be a massive tasting and popular voting to choose the best ceviche in Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta prepares for the 5th Ceviche and Aguachile Festival. What is this event about? What are these gastronomic delights?

From the tasty friendship between fish and lemon, two of the best-known dishes of the Pacific Rim cuisine: the ceviche and the aguachile. The latter is a Mexican variant, with added chili and onion.

Ceviche and aguachile, sister dishes

Ceviche is a dish consisting of fish or shellfish marinated in citrus dressings, mainly lemon, lime or sour orange. It is one of the delicacies most sought after by tourists on the beach, an ideal dish for a picnic by the sea. In Mexico, the preparation usually includes chili peppers, onion, cilantro, tomato and avocado. There is a Vallarta version that replaces these last two ingredients with carrots and cucumbers.

In the aguachile, generous portions of chopped chili are added, mainly serrano, and abundant slices of onion. Also grain salt and some pepper. This set produces an explosion of sea flavor on the palate.

What is the Ceviche and Aguachile Festival

These dishes have been, for five years, the ideal pretext for the Ceviche and Aguachile Festival in Puerto Vallarta. The fifth edition of this event will take place on January 27 from 12 to 7 pm at the Lazaro Cardenas Park.

There are 11 confirmed restaurants that will participate offering their delicacies: Cuates & Cuetes, Cava seafood & grill, Lamara, La lobster loca, Tuna azul, Patita salada, La saranderia, Bocachica ceviches, El rey del aguachile, Danimar and Maringo.

There will also be craft drinks, with three breweries coming straight from Guadalajara for the festival.

Organizers They expect to receive more than 1,500 people throughout the 7 hours that the event lasts. They estimate to sell 750 kg of ceviche and aguachile among all the participating restaurants.

Contest: the best ceviche in Puerto Vallarta

The contest to choose the “best ceviche in Puerto Vallarta” is announced. This contest is by popular vote. The people who, through a tasting, choose the best recipe, and the winning restaurant is given a special recognition.

In this edition it is expected to reach a ton of food sold, the organizers reported.

The festival is also associated with a noble cause, since a meal will be offered to the children of the Santa Esperanza Children's Shelter, with the altruistic contributions of fish and shellfish from the participating restaurants.

The data: The Ceviche and Aguachile Festival takes place twice a year: the last weekend of January and July. Both seasons are relevant seasons for international and national tourism in this tourist destination.
