The Vallarta Pier: A must-see place in the Romantic Zone

In 2013, Puerto Vallarta's pier was renovated to offer tourists and locals alike, a place of height that fuses the stories of the past with the new millennium. Los Muertos Pier is more alive than ever.

Between 1960 and 1970 it was built the first pier on Los Muertos beach. Previously, the locals came to fish with their rods, or in a rudimentary way, with a small boat. Fishing in this way was a real audacity. For the plastic artists of the time, this was undoubtedly a scene worth capturing, as well as the sunsets and the local landscape. It was common to see how painters delighted passers-by with their works, with the historic Los Muertos dock as a background.

The growth of the port continued its course and modernity arrived. Puerto Vallarta began to grow and develop. Its infrastructure was changing little by little and there were more and more houses, condominiums and hotels. Of course, this growth has demanded a large amount of infrastructure and services that have led to the typical small town gradually becoming a city like the one we know now.

At the beginning of 2013, the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism renewed the image of the pier, with an innovative construction that has become an icon of Vallarta. The new pier is made up of a metal structure in the center, in the shape of an obelisk for some or a sailboat for others. At night it shines with a wonderful play of lights, which gives it an incredible modern feeling. This structure has a couple of benches to sit around the metal structure, where you can appreciate the sunsets and the nightlife of the place.

The photo of the memory

The natural spectacle that the Pacific gives us in this corner of Vallarta is unmatched. This, in my opinion, is the perfect place to capture the best sunset on the planet. Here it is elementary to take the memory photo. He has witnessed great romances and permanent unions. So it is a must stop for everyone who visits Vallarta…

How to get to Los Muertos Pier

The Los Muertos pier is located on Francisca Rodríguez street, in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. Just 10 minutes walking from the Arches of the Malecon. This beautiful area is also known as the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. You can arrive by taxi, car or truck and get off right at Olas Altas. There is located the Plaza Lázaro Cárdenas, which has adopted the name of Tile Park thanks to the urban artist and activist Natasha Moraga, who has been in charge of beautifying public places with tiles placed in an original and aesthetic way, such as this park or the letters welcoming Puerto Vallarta.

Once you are in this park, you walk a couple of blocks south along the parallel street, or else along the narrow boardwalk that adjoins the beach and leads to the pier. There you will find a wide variety of bars and restaurants with national or international food, for all tastes.

Of course, there will be no shortage of music from trios, mariachis and even good jazz and blues in some of these famous restaurants. From there you will have a beautiful view of the pier and the beach. So there is no excuse for not enjoying a cold beer, after taking a souvenir photo.
