The Church of San Miguel Arcángel is a symbol of faith for the faithful and of belonging for the population of Pitillal. Every September 29, their traditional patron saint festivities are celebrated.
The Church of San Miguel Arcángel is a place of faith and union for hundreds of families from Pitillal and surrounding areas. Its patron saint festivities are celebrated every September 29 and have become a tradition of celebration and joy. This temple was built by and for the people of Vallarta with their hands and love.
From its foundations to its Christ, they are made with materials from the region. Bricks and stones stand firm to be a home of faith. It is said that the rocks were taken from the river Pitillal. The great Christ is carved in red cedar wood. For more than 25 years and from the heights it has welcomed all who visit its rooms with open arms. There are many more reasons that make the Parish of San Miguel home to the people of the Pitillal. The old people of Vallarta also participated with parties, raffles, cooperation and charreadas to obtain the necessary resources for the construction of their temple. Now the new generations participate in keeping it beautiful every day.
The history of the second most visited Parish begins in 1946…
It was in the year 1946, when 10 residents of Pitillal together with the priest Rafael Parra Castillo assigned San Miguel Arcángel as patron of the temple. The first stone of the church of San Miguel Arcángel was placed on January 24, 1977, by the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Tepic, Adolfo Suárez Rivera. Its construction was completed on September 20, 1989, with Mr. J. Isabel Meza Sendiz as master of the work. The image of the Risen Jesus arrived at the church on February 15, 1992, made in Santa Anita, Jalisco, carved by Juan José Méndez, it measures 4.92 meters and weighs 980 kilograms. Can you imagine how complicated the transport work was for this unique piece?
The Parish of San Miguel does not stop growing, as well as its followers
The Church of San Miguel has constant maintenance and remodeling to maintain its attractiveness. As it grows over the years, the number of followers and faithful to its enclosure also increases.
With more than 20 priests who have directed the Pitillal temple from 1946 to date, the Parish of San Miguel Arcángel is a living church, with a joyful and devoted community, the wealth of this temple is magnified by its people and the fervor of its festivities.
