Surfing, the best gift in Banderas Bay

One of the most fun and introspective sports is undoubtedly Surfing. This activity has become the main reason for many travelers to find the perfect wave in the paradise of the Mexican Pacific; Banderas Bay.

The waves of the sea are not measured in meters, but in drops of adrenaline. I am a free soul, a man of the sea. I arrived in this paradise when I was 3 years old, so practically the first thing I did after walking was swimming. From a very young age I was oriented towards water sports, so I flow like a fish in water. Nothing better than the sea of this Bay of Banderas.

For those who don't know, Nayarit is a state that is located in the northwest of Mexico, on the coastal strip of the Pacific Ocean, where the Marías Islands, Isabel Island, Tres Marietas and the Peña Farallón are also located. This part of the coastline has a large number of surf spots, which are perfect for starting out and also for expert surfers.

The Riviera Nayarit has a large number of beaches located in the Bay of Banderas that are suitable for practicing this sport, which for many like me has become a religion.

The climate of the bay is undoubtedly elementary for the practice to be enjoyable. The temperature oscillates between 18 and 32 degrees in the hot season. What has generated that Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit in recent decades have become one of the best beach destinations for vacations and to live.

Ideal beaches in the Bay of Banderas for Surfing

Around Punta Mita, there are incredible places to surf. Some beaches have reefs that become natural breakwaters and others in places where adventure is our daily bread for surf lovers: Punta Burros, sayulita, Los Veneros (also known as Dinosaurio), Las Albercas or La Playa, The Cove & El Faro, El Anclote, La Lancha, are the best known. Other important points on the north coast are Chacala and San Blas, Matanchen Bay, Las Olas, Las Rocas, and Las Lolas, among others.

This coast of good waves, goes from the municipality of San Blas, passes through the beaches of: Santiago Ixcuintla, Acaponeta, Tecuala, Mita's tip and Nuevo Vallarta. Any time of the year is good for dealing with the ocean, as long as there is wind creating good waves. However, in March there is a significant influx of local surfers, Mexican, American and from all over the world, looking for the best wave.

Surfing is for everyone

For those who grow up on the coast and surf since they were little, of course it is easier. But if it is not like that, in the same way this sport will be extremely fun for you. Surfing is for everyone! As my mother said one day when we were sitting on the beach in Sayulita, she saw an almost 80-year-old grandmother walk by leaving the beach with her board on her head. You just can't believe it! And, surely you will think the same. If she can, why can't I? And he was right...

Obviously people who like the water, water sports, a bit of fitness and a taste for adrenaline are suitable candidates. And it is that adapting to a moving environment such as the sea makes the physical effort intense and many calories are burned. Surfing helps reduce fat (in women on the hips and men in the belly. It increases our aerobic capacity.

Surfing also benefits the functioning of the heart, since it improves blood flow and blood pressure. It strengthens the nervous system, relaxing us and also helping mental well-being. Improves resistance, flexibility, coordination, balance, oxygenation and above all reduces stress. In short, it opens our hearts...

Getting up early in search of the best wave

a mystical moment

Surfing is a sport and a philosophy of life. There you will meet relaxed people from all over the world who are passionate about this sport. The routine for those who take surfing seriously is definitely appealing to the Mexican saying: «God helps that who rises early".

The true surfer gets up very early, at four in the morning to prepare his things. Still dark, around 5 in the morning, take the road to go to the beach to look for waves. Do not forget that the sea is an unstable medium. The waves at eight in the morning are not the same as at eleven.

The mystical moment is when there is no one or almost no one. There is no noise, just the sky, the crabs, the sand, the waves and you with your board; rowing out to sea to wait for that union with the universe through the sea. Being with you, waiting, breathing, rowing and rowing and doing it faster and faster, until you ride the wave of your dreams...

This blessed bay, the Bay of Banderas, embraced me, showed me its beauty and the sea welcomed me so much that here I am. Feel the adrenaline, the peace, and confront your will with a good wave.
