Mismaloya, the beach where stars are caught

Mismaloya is key to the story. A charismatic fishing village became the residence of Hollywood stars for being a paradisiacal place.

Its name comes from nahuatl michmaloyan, what does it mean “place where fish is caught”. This emblematic town is located 14 km from Puerto Vallarta, on Highway 200, between Conchas Chinas and Boca de Tomatlán.

It has a white sand beach and gentle waves, with restaurants with humble palapas but glorious flavor. All its ingredients are fresh, taken daily from the sea and the land. Its dishes are local delicacies, while its drinks are worthy companions on a sunny day at the beach.

The film "La Noche de la Iguana" is the beginning of a great artistic career for Mismaloya

This beach town makes its leap thanks to the film's director "The Night of the Iguana" John Houston. He decides that the jungle and the sea in the area are the perfect setting for such an emblematic film. Thanks to this, the national and international press sets its sights on Puerto Vallarta and its surroundings.

Mismaloya becomes a Hollywood artist residence but its main characters were Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, who chose the bay to live their romance, initially prohibited. Previously you could visit the recording set of this film. It has been closed for a few years but there is still hope that it will be reactivated in order to have the fortune to visit history.

Not only movie stars have chosen the place as their home, there are also sports stars. For example, Ildefonso Camarena González, better known as "The Crazy Camarena". This national motorcyclist is a living legend in Mismaloya, who has a career full of championships, titles and recognitions.

Mismaloya is the mixture of memories of yesterday and joys of now

At present, the beginnings of the town are still remembered and it is happy to have the presence of other artists but it has other enormous attractions.

Mismaloya and its beach is the central point to go to other magnificent sites such as the Vallarta Zoo. You can also find your way to locations that were used for another movie, "Predator". The place is known as "The Eden", a cool river, with dominant rocks that create refreshing waterfalls. This current flows into the Mismaloya beach and feeds the life of flora and fauna.

It is the perfect union of the Sierra Madre Occidental and the waves of the Mexican Pacific. Biological diversity ranges from birds, fish, armadillos, deer and even jaguars. Not to worry these have their habitat in the depths of the jungle.

Mismaloya is more than just memories and longing, it is joy and life. It is a beautiful beach and a charming town. Good food and excellent drink. Mexican crafts made of love. Colors given by nature embodied in animals and silver, on land and water. It is a place of history to create stories. It is the foot of the before and after of Puerto Vallarta. When you know it you will not be able to imagine another beach with its equal.

When the COVID-19 contingency ends, the most beautiful bay will be waiting for you.
